November 2019, several GNPVA volunteers assisted in building bat houses. The St. Mary's employee housing units are home to thousands of bats. GNPVA members assisted in construction of two large bat houses which will be placed on the outskirts of the housing area next spring. The goal is to draw the bats out of the "human" residences and into their own structures to reduce the incidence of human contact. Lisa Bate obtained construction plans from a noted bat researcher who has had great success in attracting bats with these particular structures.
